Sheet Fed Offset with LED Technology Printing

Smart and Efficient.

At Friesens, we’re always looking for ways to print smarter, and LED printing is one of the technologies helping us do just that. It’s energy-efficient, fast-drying, and delivers the kind of sharp and vibrant results that make books stand out.

Energy Efficiency

LED Sheet Fed Offset presses use significantly less energy than UV traditional methods. That’s great news for the environment and for publishers looking to reduce printing costs without compromising quality. That’s a win-win that supports both sustainability and smart budgeting.

Cleaner Prints and Faster Turnarounds

One of the biggest advantages of LED printing is how quickly the ink dries. That means less risk of ghosting or image transfer, especially on pages with heavy ink coverage. It’s an ideal solution for art books, photo heavy layouts, and any project where clarity and colour integrity matters.

Long Lasting Quality

LED technology isn’t just efficient…it’s reliable. The prints hold their colour and sharpness over time, so your books look just as good years from now as they did the day they came off the press.

How Does Offset Printing with LED Technology Work?

The start of the process is the same as standard sheet fed offset printing…the book design is separated into CMYK, with each colour transferred to its own aluminum plate. The image is offset from the plate to a rubber blanket then onto the paper. In a standard offset press, heat or a special powder is used to dry the ink, but LED curing changes the game.

As each sheet passes through the press, it’s exposed to high-intensity LED lights that instantly cure the ink. This eliminates the need for extended drying times and reduces the risk of ghosting or image transfer. It generates very little heat, which helps protect delicate paper stocks and reduces the overall environmental impact.

What Type of Ink Does Sheet Fed Offset with LED Technology Printing Use?

The inks used are specially-formulated to dry instantly when exposed to LED lights. The inks used at Friesens are environmentally friendly and made up of a mix of organic compounds.
