As I watched President Jimmy Carter’s funeral live on TV in early January, I was moved to tears by the profound impact he had on our nation and the world. It is with deep respect and admiration that we at Friesens Corporation remember President Carter, who passed away recently at the age of 100. As many of you may know, he was a prolific writer amidst his many admirable traits. In fact, Mr. Carter produced 30 books over 4 decades and all without the help of a ghost writer. That is a literary legacy that surpasses any President of the modern age.

President Carter was not only a great leader but also a devoted husband, father, and philanthropist. Born and raised as a farmer in rural Georgia, his humble beginnings shaped his character and instilled in him a deep sense of responsibility and compassion for others.
During his political career, President Carter made significant advancements for the United States, including the Camp David Accords, which led to a historic peace treaty between Egypt and Israel. He was also largely responsible for the establishment of the Department of Energy and Department of Education. His commitment to human rights and diplomacy left a lasting legacy on the global stage.
President Carter’s philanthropic efforts were equally remarkable. He founded The Carter Center, which has worked tirelessly to promote peace, fight disease, and improve global health. His dedication to Habitat for Humanity, where he personally helped build homes for those in need, showcased his unwavering commitment to helping others.

At Friesens, we had the honor of bringing several of President Carter’s works to life in print. Among these were “The Paintings of Jimmy Carter,” which highlighted his artistic endeavors, and “The Craftsmanship of Jimmy Carter,” which celebrated his woodworking skills. Both books were published by our longtime client and friends at Mercer University Press in Macon, GA. Most recently, we had the pleasure of printing President Carter’s final book, “Rivers & Dreams,” a memoir filled with touching stories that center around fly fishing. This book was published by The Bitter Southerner, based in Athens, GA.
President Carter’s hobbies of painting, woodworking, and fly fishing reflected his deep appreciation for creativity and nature. His literary legacy is a testament to his intellectual honesty and integrity. His works continue to inspire readers and will endure as a lasting tribute to his remarkable life and contributions.
We at Friesens Corporation are profoundly grateful for the opportunity to play a small role in bringing President Carter’s books to life. It has been an honor to print his works, and we salute him as the wonderful person he was. His legacy as a great American and an unwaveringly strong man will live on in the hearts of those who were touched by his life and work.
