Friesens vision is to help authors share their best story with the world through the power of print.
Among the many and diverse printing projects that Friesens has been a part of, we are pleased to announce the printing of the book, The Best of the Bonnet by Canadian writer and local celebrity, Andrew Unger.
Friesens Sales Rep Donovan Bergman and Project Specialist Melissa Giesbrecht were proud to host Andrew and his wife Erin as they toured the plant and spent time watching Andrew’s book as it moved from the beginning stages to finished product on the production floor. Always an exciting experience as Erin described in part, “This is the moment we saw the book rolling off the presses. Getting its cover. Coming together as a fully formed book! We stayed here for quite a while. It’s all very amazing and thrilling!”
Andrew Unger is best known as the author and founder of the satirical news website The Daily Bonnet writing more than 1,800 satirical news articles about Mennonite life. The online publication has had more than 10 million visitors since its launch in 2016 and its headlines were read in the House of Commons two years ago in support of a motion to establish a Mennonite Heritage Week. His 2020 novel Once Removed (published by Turnstone Press and printed at Friesens) won the Eileen McTavish Sykes Award for best first book. Andrew is a writer, public speaker, and educator from southern Manitoba. He is a graduate of the University of Manitoba and lives with his wife Erin in Steinbach.
