And the Winners Are…

| Yearbooks

From over 900 schools across Canada and the United States, 220 entries, and 67 finalists, we have our winners in the 2025-26 Friesens Cover Contest!

Judged by industry experts, they all had the same thing to say…it was both fun and challenging to rank them all, as they all had different qualities that could have made them all winners.

Without further ado, here are this year’s Honourable Mentions and winners!

HONOURABLE MENTION – CALVIN CHRISTIAN COLLEGIATE – WINNIPEG, MANITOBA

Hand drawn cover of the Calvin Christian Collegiate 2025-26 school yearbook
“Great, simple design. I love the hint of moving forward on the back cover with a straightforward sign, which is so clever because it also shows what comes next after viewing the content of the grads’ book.”

HONOURABLE MENTION – LISTOWEL DISTRICT SECONDARY SCHOOL – LISTOWEL, ONTARIO

Cover of the 2025-26 Listowel District Secondary School yearbook
“This design successfully mixes typography with illustration in a way that brings the theme to life! “

HONOURABLE MENTION – QUARRY LANE SCHOOL – DUBLIN, CALIFORNIA

Cover of the 2025-26 Quarry Lane School yearbook with black and white doodles
“Excellent use of colour and composition!”

HONOURABLE MENTION – ARDROSSAN JUNIOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL – ARDROSSAN, ALBERTA

Cover of the 2025-26 Ardrossan JR SR High School yearbook with a blue watercolour bison
“The design feels classic and artistic. The choice of a single, powerful mascot (the bison) rendered in a monochromatic watercolor style is bold and memorable. The organic, abstract shapes around the bison make the artwork feel dynamic and hand painted. It successfully blends the natural, fluid elements of art with the structured, clean elements of a cover design. “

THIRD PLACE – GEORGE WASHINGTON HIGH SCHOOL – PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA

Cover of the 2025-26 George Washington High School yearbook with five soaring eagles.
“Great connection to the theme, with a highlight of the eagles. Also, the use of old typography font style was so connected to the George Washington era.”

SECOND PLACE – LAKEVILLE NORTH HIGH SCHOOL – LAKEVILLE, MINNESOTA

The cover of the 2025-26 Lakeville North High School Yearbook in red with a panther silhouette
“This cover design captures the attitude and energy of the theme. The composition sets the stage for standout typography!”

FIRST PLACE – STEVESTON-LONDON SECONDARY SCHOOL – RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA

Black and white gritty cover of the 2025-26 Steveson-London Secondary School yearbook
“The cover is dynamic because it captures a process rather than a final state. The merging of rigid grid lines with organic brushstrokes, combined with moving, blurred figures and complex layers of informational text, ensures the cover feels energetic and forward-thinking. It perfectly encapsulating a school year full of movement and growth. This yearbook cover is a sophisticated, layered, multi-dimensional experience.”

Congratulations to our winners, but more importantly congratulations to everyone in our Friesens school community for another incredible year of creativity. The talent and care behind this year’s entries made judging a real challenge, which says a lot about the work being done in yearbook rooms everywhere.

A huge thank you to our judges…Dr. Reem El Asaleh, Rhonda Levins, Stephen Williams, and David Burney…for taking on the tough task of reviewing so many outstanding covers, and for sharing their time and expertise with our schools.
