Teachers & Advisors | 2024 Friesens Cover Contest

As the old saying goes, you can’t judge a book by its cover…but you CAN judge THE cover!  The 2023-24 Friesens Cover Contest is back for another year, and we’re excited to see this years’ entries.

We love putting this contest on each year, as it helps us celebrate the creativity, time, and effort that gets put into the design of yearbook covers.  It’s never easy to pick the winners, because the submissions are amazing year in and year out!

This year the members of our judging panel have keen eyes for design, colour theory, and artistry.  Covers will be judged on categories such as creativity, concept, composition, and difficulty, starting with the Regional Awards.  The top three winners of each region will then move on to the Nationals for a chance to win $1,000, $500, or $250 for your school. Winners will be announced on April 15, 2024.

This year, our judges are all experienced in the various different elements of creating a yearbook, particularly the covers! You can meet them all here.

The judges will be scoring on the following: Creativity, Theme Representation, Visual Appeal, Typography, Composition and Difficulty. Does the cover feature innovative and creative design elements that effectively capture the theme and essence of the school year? Does it clearly communicate the chosen yearbook theme through design elements, colour schemes, and imagery? How complex is the design? Our judges will be looking at all covers with a fine-tooth comb. See the 2024 Cover Contest Rubric here.

Good luck to all schools!
