Lamination
Lamination is the application of a thin film of transparent plastic to the cover, acting as a protective layer and enhancing its visual appeal. Friesens offers a multitude of lamination options, and we can help you choose the one that’s most appropriate for your project.

Foil Stamping
Foil stamping involves imprinting designs onto a book’s spine or cover using heat, pressure, and metallic foil paper. It can be flat stamped embossed. Foil colours range from the standard gold, silver, and copper to red, green, blue, and even holographic.
Spot Gloss UV
Spot Gloss UV is a liquid varnish applied on top of the printed surface, creating a high-gloss shine. It’s like adding a glossy highlight to a specific area of a design like the title of the book, a logo, or parts of an image you want to stand out.
Deboss & Emboss
Embossing and debossing can be used to create a dramatic effect on the cover of both hard cover and softcover books. Embossing creates a raised effect, while debossing gives the opposite effect. Blind embossing and debossing are variations where no ink or foil is added, creating a subtle outcome.

Diecut
Die cutting involves using a precise metal blade called a die to create unique shapes and designs. It can be used to create windows or openings on the cover to give readers a glimpse inside or to add visual interest to the book.
Burnishing
Burnishing on covers creates a subtle tone-on-tone effect, adding an elegant touch to the design for a sophisticated cover aesthetic.
