Quarter Binding

Style Your Spine

Quarter binding is a stylish way to give your yearbook cover a little extra flair. It’s all about mixing textures and colours to make your book stand out…literally.

What Is Quarter Binding?

Quarter binding is when the spine and a small portion of the front and back cover are wrapped in a different material than the rest of the cover. Think of it like a jacket with denim sleeves and a leather body. The spine material gets wrapped around the book’s spine and a bit of the front and back, then the main cover is added to finish it off.  Alternatively, you can design your cover in a way to give the illusion of a classic quarter bound book.

Split the Style

You can go bold with contrasting colours, like a matte black spine paired with a neon cover, or mix up textures, such as a linen spine with a glossy photo finish. Try matching your theme with the materials: a vintage vibe might call for tweed-like cloth, while a futuristic look could use metallics. You could even feature student artwork on the main cover and use a solid spine to frame it like a gallery piece.
