Marker Ribbons
Function and Style
Marker ribbons bring a touch of elegance and practicality to your book, offering a built-in way for readers to keep their place with ease. Available in a wide range of colors, textures, and widths, these woven accents enhance the reading experience while adding a refined, professional finish to your hardcover project.

How are Ribbons Added to Books?
Ribbons are added to books at Friesens using one of two methods: by hand or by machine. In the hand applied method, the ribbon is glued in manually and tucked close to the spine, offering a clean look with minimal impact on surrounding pages. In the machine applied method, which is more efficient for larger runs, the ribbon is placed diagonally across the page which can leave a visible impression on several pages before and after the insertion points.
Why Add Marker Ribbons?
Adding a marker ribbon to your book is a thoughtful way to enhance both its function and finish. It gives readers a convenient, built-in way to mark their place, making it especially useful for journals, devotionals, planners, and keepsake editions. Marker ribbons also add a touch of elegance and professionalism, helping the book stand out on shelves or as a gift.

Helpful Hints
- We recommend ribbons between 1/8″ and 3/8″ wide. Anything outside this range must be applied by hand.
- The ribbon should never be wider than the book block’s thickness, and planning includes calculating the exact ribbon length needed per book using a specific formula that accounts for book dimensions and gluing allowance.
