Dust Jackets
Design. Protect. Impress.
Whether you’re aiming to impress on the shelf or protect your book for years to come, dust jackets do it all with style. They combine practical protection with eye-catching design, turning every book into a beautiful, lasting impression.

What is a Dust Jacket?
A dust jacket is a removable paper cover that wraps around the outside of a hardcover book, typically featuring printed artwork, the book’s title, and author information. It helps protect the book from scratches, scuffs, and dust, while also enhancing its visual appeal and offering space for creative design.
How is a Dust Jacket Made?
At Friesens, creating a dust jacket starts with your custom design, built using our downloadable templates that ensure perfect sizing for your book’s trim, spine, and flaps. Once your file is submitted, we prepare a proof for your approval, then print and finish the jacket with your choice of lamination or specialty effects.

Why Add a Dust Jacket?
Adding a dust jacket to a book offers both practical and aesthetic benefits. They’re a key element in elevating a book’s presentation, offering a canvas for visuals, foil stamping, and more. They also protect the book from scratches, scuffs, and dust, while also providing space for author bios, summaries, and other content on the flaps.
Helpful Hints
- Adding spot gloss UV to a dust jacket is possible, but something to consider is the placement. Over time, any edge that is folded is prone to cracking, so applying spot gloss UV along the spine edge or the folded flaps should be avoided.
- When dust jackets are produced with no lamination, there’s a risk of scuffing occurring during shipping. As a result, books should be shrink-wrapped in bundles to minimize the risk.
- If adding spot UV to a dust jacket, we need to use the Matte Scuff-Resistant Velvet Lamination as the spot UV “sticks” better.
