Promoting Your Yearbook on Social Media

| Yearbooks

~ by Jackie Toews, Yearbook Project Specialist

Your yearbook isn’t just a book. It’s a snapshot of the school year, packed with memories, milestones, and moments that matter. It’s got personality, heart, and a whole lot of style. But even the coolest yearbook needs a little boost to get the attention it deserves. That’s where social media steps in.

Getting the word out online can make a big impact throughout the school year. For example, you might be a student excited to share your senior quote, a yearbook advisor racing against deadlines, or a teacher hoping to spotlight your club. And the best part? Friesens is here to help you every step of the way.

Social Media Strategies That Actually Work

Here’s how to turn your yearbook promo game from boring to “must-have”:

1. Post Sneak Peeks

Blurred pages, cropped collages, or candid shots from photo day…tease the content without giving it all away. Think of it like a movie trailer for your yearbook.

Tip: Use captions like “Can you guess who’s behind the blur?” or “This page is on fire… but you’ll have to wait!”

2. Behind-the-Scenes Content

Show the hustle! Share clips of students designing layouts, snapping photos, or interviewing classmates. It’s a great way to highlight the effort and creativity behind the book.

3. Throwback Posts

Dig into the archives and post pics from past yearbooks (with permission). Ask followers to comment on their memories or tag friends they recognize.

Try: “Flashback Friday: Recognize anyone from the 2015 yearbook?”

4. Countdowns

Create urgency with countdowns to early bird pricing or final order deadlines. Use bold graphics and emojis to grab attention.

“Only 3 days left to snag your yearbook at the early bird price!”

5. Highlight Student Voices

Let students and staff share why the yearbook matters. A heartfelt quote or funny testimonial can go a long way.

“The yearbook is where our stories live. Don’t miss yours.” – Jordan, Grade 12

6. Run Contests or Giveaways

Offer small prizes for tagging friends, sharing posts, or submitting content. It’s a fun way to boost engagement and get more eyes on your page.

“Tag a friend you want to see in the yearbook, and you could win a free copy!”

7. Interactive Stories & Polls

Use Instagram or Facebook stories to run polls, quizzes, or Q&As. Ask questions like “Will you be in the yearbook?” or “What was your favorite school event?”

8. Tagging & Mentions

Encourage students to tag friends in posts or stories. The more shares, the more buzz!

9. Clear Purchase Info

Make it easy to buy. Share links, QR codes, and step-by-step instructions regularly. Don’t make people hunt for it!

10. Urgency Messaging

Remind followers that quantities are limited and deadlines are approaching. FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) is real…use it wisely.

11. Highlight the Benefits

Remind everyone that the yearbook isn’t just a book, it’s a keepsake. It’s the only place where all the memories, milestones, and moments come together.

12. Stay Consistent

Post 2–3 times a week leading up to deadlines. Keep the momentum going with fresh content and reminders.

13. Use Weekly Themes

Try “Memory Mondays,” “Throwback Thursdays,” or “Feature Fridays” to keep things fun and predictable.

14. Partner with School Accounts

Ask your school’s official pages, clubs, and teams to repost your content. More reach = more sales.

15. Feature Clubs & Teams

Highlight sports, clubs, and events to draw interest from those groups. Everyone loves seeing themselves in print!
