At Friesens, February is one of our favorite times of the year…it’s I Love to Read Month! This annual celebration of literacy in Manitoba is close to our hearts, and as a company that makes books, we’re thrilled to join forces with our friends at Golden West once again. Together, we’re helping spark a love of reading in young minds, especially in a world where screens often compete for their attention.
Just like in past years, Friesens employee-owners will visit classrooms across the Pembina Valley to read to hundreds of Grade 2 students. And the best part? Every student will receive their very own copy of this year’s featured book, Owl by Kara Griffin, illustrated by K. Shawn Larson and published by Acorn Press – Atlantic Books. We’re printing 1,000 copies to make this happen!
Owl is a gentle, beautifully illustrated story about a boy’s special connection with an owl from the old forest. Along the way, readers learn how to make the barred owl’s call and discover the value of curiosity, persistence, and caring for nature. Will the boy ever see Owl again?
