When it comes to the presentation and protection of a book project, few options are as elegant and functional as a custom slipcase or book box. Customers choose to incorporate these packaging solutions into their projects not only for their aesthetic appeal but also for the added durability and stature they bring to the final product. Whether it’s a collector’s edition, a commemorative release, or a high-end photo book, slipcases and specialty boxes offer a refined way to showcase, and safeguard printed works.
At Friesens, our skilled employee-owners take pride in crafting these custom enclosures with precision and care. Each slipcase or box is expertly fashioned to meet the exact specifications of our customers, ensuring a perfect fit and a stunning finish that enhances the overall value of the book.
Types of Slipcases Friesens Can Make In-House:

Slipcases
A slipcase is a five-sided box made from rigid board and wrapped in custom printed paper, colored paper, or cloth-style materials. It houses one or more books, and typically leaves the spines exposed for easy identification on a shelf.
- Offers excellent protection while maintaining bookshelf accessibility.
- Can be customized to mirror the book’s cover or add a unique design element.

Book Box
This box features a four-sided tray and a three-panel hard case, sometimes with an additional interior lid panel for structural support. All components are wrapped in decorative materials of the customer’s choice such as either custom print paper, colored papers or cloth style papers.
- Ideal for limited edition or keepsake books.
- Also suitable for storing prints, certificates, or other special items.

Neck Box
Comprising a base tray, lid tray, and neck tray, this box is constructed from rigid board and wrapped in custom or colored papers. The neck tray fits snugly into the base tray and can be either hidden or highlighted.
- Though commonly used for cosmetics and candles, it can also offer a unique way to present a book series.

3-Piece Clamshell
Made from two trays (either both three-sided or one four-sided and one three-sided) adhered to a three-panel case. The hinge can be attached or left free depending on the design.
- A versatile and popular choice for limited edition books, art prints, and high-end documents.

1-Piece Clamshell
Constructed from a single piece of board (up to 80pt), this box is lined and wrapped in custom or colored papers. It may include V-notches or thumb cuts for easier opening.
- Popular for small page count saddle-stitched book series.

Telescopic Box
This classic design includes a base tray and a lid tray; both made from rigid board and wrapped in various paper-based materials. The lid can fully or partially cover the base or can be different depths to show half or more of the Base Tray art depending on the desired aesthetic.
- Commonly used for gift items, apparel, and cosmetics.
- Easy to open and visually appealing.

Magnetic Book Box
Featuring a four-sided tray and a four-panel case with embedded magnets, this box offers a secure and elegant closure. All board components are typically wrapped in either a custom print design or colored papers and additionally enhanced with foil stamping, lamination, and foam inserts.
- Perfect for luxury book editions and keepsakes.
- Foam inserts add a premium touch and secure the contents.
