Seasonal Maintenance Support

An Employment Equity Employer, Friesens Corporation is currently accepting applications for Seasonal Maintenance Support position. This position is frequently filled by full time post secondary students enrolled in University or College. Seasonal Maintenance Support personnel are responsible to carry out the requests of the Facilities Manager. He/She will be participating in building and grounds maintenance and renovation projects in the Book, Yearbook/Web, and Packaging Divisions, and at the Supreme Warehouse as directed by the Facilities Manager.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent;
- Training and/or experience with small tools and equipment;
- Problem solving skills;
- Mechanical aptitude;
- Understand and follow instructions;
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently;
- Valid Driver’s License;
- Forklift Experience an asset.
Responsibilities:
- Work and communicate effectively with the Manager and fellow staff;
- Carry out required tasks as requested by the Manager and according to the schedule. These may include:
- Summer grounds keeping;
- Cut all grass at Book, Yearbook and Packaging Divisions;
- Look after gardening – trim edges, weed gardens, plant flowers and other tasks as required.
- Clean up Maintenance area and Maintenance van and company vehicles as needed;
- Assist Baler room staff during peak production periods. Staff member in this position may be asked to assist in the coverage of holiday time for the baler staff;
- Assist in various after-hour company duties such as company picnic set-up and parade participation;
- Run pick-up errands;
- Assist in scheduled maintenance routines as per the Facilities Manager;
- Local trips to venders/suppliers will be required;
- Practice Friesens safety procedures for equipment and plant situations.

Seasonal Production Support

An Employment Equity Employer, Friesens Corporation is currently accepting applications for Seasonal Production Support positions in the Book and Web Division Binderies. These positions are frequently filled by full time post secondary students enrolled in University or College. Seasonal Production Support personnel are responsible to carry out the requests of the Bindery Specialty Coordinator or Shift Manager. They perform a variety of tasks relating to Bindery Department production. Successful applicants will work one of the following shift configurations: [1] 12-hour day shift rotation (Shift 1: Mon-Tues, Fri-Sat; Shift 2: Wed-Thurs); [2] 12-hour night shift rotation (Early Week: Sun-Mon-Tues-Wed; Late Week: Wed-Thurs-Fri-Sat).
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent;
- Basic computer skills;
- Effective verbal and listening communications skills;
- Ability to read and understand written work instructions;
- Ability to complete daily activities according to work schedule;
- Critical eye for identifying defects;
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting;
- Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures;
- Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labour;
- Commitment to quality and safety;
- Able to work between 32-40 hours per week;
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts.
Responsibilities:
- Work and communicate effectively with the Manager, Shift Manager, Bindery Specialty Coordinator (where applicable) and department staff;
- Practice Friesens safety procedures for equipment and plant situations;
- Carry out the responsibilities as assigned by the Bindery Specialty Coordinator or Shift Manager which may include but are not limited to:
-Spot checking books for quality
-Stacking book blocks
-Hand taping/gluing of ribbons into books
-Specialty binding (Book)
-Tipping pages
-Hand dust-jacketing
-Performing other specialty binding functions as requested (Book)
-Putting books in cartons
-Stacking cartons on skids
- Assist with bindery department maintenance and housekeeping.
