Junior Software Developer – Term

Position Overview:
• Work on software projects as assigned by the IT Manager
• Develop software that is of high quality
• Follow industry best practices in the development of consistent & intuitive user interfaces and proper SQL and other code
• Document software as per current standards used in Friesens’ IT department
• Consult with and take direction from Senior Developers on coding challenges
• Balance workflow priorities

Desired Skills:
• Must be enrolled in a Computer Sciences Program
• Skills in Microsoft’s Visual Studio, C# / VB.NET is a requirement
• Familiarity with Java Script or Angular would be an asset
• Some experience in Windows application development and/or web development would be an asset
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server would be an asset
• Familiarity with agile methodologies and best practices would be an asset
• Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

Seasonal Maintenance Support – Term

Seasonal Maintenance Support staff assist Yard & Building Maintenance personnel with outdoor related duties such as lawn maintenance, planting and maintenance of flowerbeds and hedges, sweeping walkways, and other outdoor maintenance duties as needed. When the weather is such that outdoor work is not possible, the individual will assist with various indoor janitorial and building maintenance duties.

Job Snapshot:
Location: Altona, Manitoba
Employment Type: Term – beginning April 2017, ending on September 2, 2017
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Position Overview:
• Summer grounds keeping at Book, Yearbook and Packaging Divisions including cutting grass & trimming edges, planting flowers and maintaining flower beds, fertilizer application, trim hedges, weed control, etc.
• Clean maintenance area and company vehicles as needed
• Assist baler room staff during peak production periods and cover holiday time for the baler staff if needed
• Assist with various after-hour company events – company picnic and parade participation (3 Saturday mornings are required for parade involvement)
• Run pick-up errands to local vendors/suppliers
• Assist with scheduled maintenance routines
• Painting projects
• Parking lot maintenance

Desired Skills:
• Full time students attending university or college are preferred
• Basic computer skills
• Mechanical and mathematical aptitude
• Valid Driver’s License
• Ability to learn or experience operating zero turn mower, chainsaw, weed trimmer, tiller and backpack sprayer
• Ability to work independently and as a functioning member of a team

Seasonal Production Support – Term

Friesens Corporation is currently accepting applications for Support positions for the summer months. These positions are frequently filled by Post Secondary students enrolled in University or College also by individuals who want to try work in production environment for a short term. Seasonal Production Support personnel perform a variety of tasks relating to Bindery Department production.

Job Snapshot:
Location: Altona, Manitoba
Employment Type: Term – beginning April 2017, ending on September 2, 2017
Working Hours: Successful applicants will work one of the following shift configurations:
12 hour day shift rotation:
Week 1: Mon & Tues, 6 AM – 6 PM, Fri & Sat, 6 AM-6 PM
Week 2: Wed & Thurs, 6 AM – 6 PM
12 hour night shift:
Weekly: Tues, Wed & Thurs, 6 PM – 6 AM

Position Overview:
• Assist Bindery Machine Operators at various pieces of bindery equipment
• Check books for quality, hand taping/gluing ribbons into books, tipping pages, hand dust-jacketing
• Stacking book blocks, packing books into cartons, stacking cartons of books onto skids
• Assist with bindery department maintenance and housekeeping
• Must be willing to work at all divisions as needed – Book, Yearbook & Web

Desired Skills:
• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labour
• Critical eye for identifying defects
• Ability to read and understand written work instructions
• Knowledge of workplace safety, safe lifting and handling procedures
• Commitment to quality and safety
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts
• Ability and willingness to work overtime
• Effective verbal and listening communication skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team setting
• Ability to complete daily activities according to work schedule

Short Haul Truck Driver

The Short Haul Truck Driver is responsible to move raw materials and finished product between Altona and Winnipeg using Friesens tractor-trailer. He/she receives day-to-day pick-up and delivery activity directions from the Shipping Manager. On occasion may need to do a pick up or delivery to the United States.

Location: Altona, Manitoba
Employee Type: Full Time
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Position Overview:
• Pick up and deliveries in Winnipeg as per Pick-up and Delivery Slips and related messages
• Daily inspections of truck to ensure it is in safe working order, reporting any concerns to the Shipping Manager
• Complete necessary paperwork at end of each shift
• Record and maintain required documentation
• Comply with applicable legislation
• Load and unload trucks
• Overtime as needed

Desired Skills:
• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
• Valid Class 1 driver’s license
• Valid passport and able to drive in the United States
• Clean driving record
• Computer literate
• Strong mechanical aptitude, ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance
• Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certification will be provided
